Cariboo Chilcotin Regional Network

Industry Canada's Community Access Program (CAP) gives Canadians affordable access to the Internet in places like schools, community centres and libraries. It provides access to those people who might not have computers or Internet access in their homes or workplaces.

Established in 2000, the Cariboo Chilcotin Regional CAP Network (CCRN) is made of sixty four CAP sites located in the Coast/Cariboo Chilcotin/Prince George region of British Columbia.  The goal of the federal government’s Government on Line initiative is to “Use information and communication technology to provide Canadians with enhanced access to improved citizen-centred, integrated services, anytime, anywhere and in the official language of their choice.”  The Network’s 64 CAP sites fulfill this mandate, as without it a large number of older Canadians, Canadians with low income or low education, Francophones, and First Nations people and Youth who live in rural and remote communities would be left without public access to the internet or government services. Of particular note is twenty-eight of the Cariboo Chilcotin Network’s sites are located in first nations communities

The Cariboo Chilcotin Regional Network's goal is to diversify and strengthen rural economies by ensuring access to access to on-line government services, skills building and training opportunities. The CCRN regional CAP network will promote public awareness of the benefits and opportunities of using information technology including New Media.
